Latin rhythms ... hip-shaking urban beats ...multi-cultural performers...tropical grooves ... catchy Spanglish lyrics ... male and female voices ... surprise guest stars ... critical accolades ... a style all their own. These are some of the hallmarks of Spellbound, a long-standing L.A. indie band with a remarkable track record. Onstage they are a rainbow of genders and ethnicities bouncing to the grooves and playing up a storm. Vocalist Bobby Moon, along with multi-instrumentalist Paul Thomas, are the founding members of the outfit, as well as its core songwriting /production team. The two met in their teen years, and began their forays in and out of bands, often writing songs together and making demo tapes for various projects. After high school, Moon and Thomas began writing and performing in earnest, spending their college years pounding on record company doors and chasing down music execs, hoping to play them early demo tapes of Spellbound music. The result of those exhausting early years? "We were rejected by every major record label in L.A. - at least twice," laughs Paul.. Nevertheless, bolstered by an absolute belief in their own material, a naive determination, and the advice of a gypsy fortune teller on Hollywood Boulevard, Spellbound’s dynamic duo began a comparably successful, and intensely gratifying career as Independent Artists - and haven’t stopped yet! Beginning with "Spellbound" in 1996 (which contains the Latin-tinged favorite "Good Company"), the band has released a succession of nationally-distributed CDs. They include 1999's "Funqueros" (dubbed a "jewel of magnanimous proportions" by Campus Circle Magazine), 2001's "Respete El Pasado/Respect The Past," and "Tropicalifornia" (One of 2002's Editor’s Top Ten Picks in Latin Beat Magazine). The band also made a timely entrance into the internet music revolution, scoring three #1 songs on the tropical charts during MP3.com’s glory days. As the 20th century came to a close, Spellbound added 2 new members that continue to this very day. Lovely calist Sonora & trombone virtuoso Mike Daigeau have truly broadened Spellbound’s palette. Also throughout their recordings, Spellbound has enjoyed the participation of diverse musical guests, from legendary singer Question Mark (? " The Mysterians - "96 Tears" - remember?) to Asdru Sierra of trend-setting band Ozomatli. Spellbound’s new CD release "Poolside Fiesta," is no exception, featuring salsa bandleader Johnny Polanco, and Cuban diva Candi Sosa, along with new bandmembers Rudy Mangual (percussion) and Michael Turre (saxaphone)."Poolside Fiesta" is also available for download on Apple I-Tunes, along with the "Spellbound Sampler" (2004) & "Encantos" (2005). Catch the band live on select U.S. dates " watch for Spellbound’s new video in 2007!
